Materials Handling Middle East Ends Successful Three-Day Run
The bi-annual networking and business gathering of the materials handling, supply chain and transport industries, Materials Handling Middle East 2011, concluded yesterday (Tuesday, September 27th) after three successful days at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Trade visitors from across the region and exhibitors expressed satisfaction at the results of the Epoc Messe Frankfurt-organised trade show and conference. Exhibitors reported a large number of new supply deals, firming up of prospective leads and many new business enquiries. Most of those who attended noted the increasing relevance of new technology for these key industries in the future.
“Further streamlining the free flow of goods and services in this region is key to the continuing economic success for the countries of the region,” said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt. “This edition of Materials Handling Middle East has underlined the growing importance of emerging technology in shaping these industries in the future,” he added.
According to industry estimates, global cargo traffic is expected to grow at robust rates with the Boeing Forecast Report 2009-2010 estimating an average annual growth rate of 5.6% over the next 20 years. This was reported by Duncan Watson, Regional Manager, Cargo Commercial, Emirates airline, while speaking at today’s (Tuesday, 27th September) conference on the prospects of the cargo industry in the Middle East.
Mr. Watson stated: “From what I can see we’ve come through a lull, but we’re already seeing some pick up and certain industries are very active. Dubai has firmly established itself – it is still the place to use as the hub of trade and will be for the foreseeable future.”
Trade visitors from across the region were aplenty at the show. Asif Haidery from Pakistan was looking for fleet management products and IT solutions for his Karachi-based transport company. “I am really glad I made it to the exhibition. I have managed to source some interesting services that may prove useful for me,” he said.
Qatar-based trader in consumer goods, Ahmed Al Kholeifi was in the market for smart warehousing technology to enable him to cut storage expenses. “Materials Handling Middle East is a great place to source products and services for someone like me without having to visit each supplier in their respective country,” he said.
This year Materials Handling Middle East saw great interest in electronic inventory systems, smart warehousing solutions, energy efficient cargo handling methods, seamless tracking and facilitating of supply chain integration and the latest in fleet management techniques for trucking and logistics operators.
Most exhibitors were pleased with the outcome of the show and received considerable interest in their products and services over the three days of the event.
Asif Sayed Khan, Division Manager, Equipment Business Unit of Genavco said: “We have a very positive feeling – we thought it would be a little quiet but our stand has been really busy. The majority of our customers are here, so it is a good opportunity to meet and greet as well as to meet new customers. There are serious visitors here – they know their trade,” he said.
Mogallan Bhagat, Assistant Manager, Sales for Kanoo Machinery was another exhibitor satisfied with the result of the show. “We participated to introduce new technology and products to the market. We got some leads for the aisle master and we also finalized an order here itself with an Omani company. There are leads and enquiries. We are satisfied with the class of visitors especially for the forklifts and warehouse equipment. We also had a few trade visitors from Iran and Saudi Arabia,” he said.
“We’ve met serious customers – we always do and we’ve had some strong leads. We’ve been coming here for years – it’s an area we’ve got a number of projects in. I’d definitely come back,” said Neil Williamson of Monofloor Technology Limited.
The three-day conference, seminar and workshop programme held alongside the exhibition also proved highly popular with regional industry professionals and middle management personnel attending the sessions which were conducted by leading international experts.
