Ibbett Mosely expects overseas investors who want a safe place for their money and have an interest in history to bid for a six-acre site on green belt land near Sir Winston Churchill’s former home in Kent.

Planning consent, which is extremely hard to secure in the Home Counties’ green belt, has been granted for a stunning oak-framed dwelling, subject to conditions, which has been designed by well-known architect Roderick James. The new house will be within a few hundred yards of historic Chartwell, the home of the late Sir Winston Churchill. The land will be auctioned on 19 October at Ibbett Mosely’s Sevenoaks auction rooms.

Dr Robert Wickham, Senior Partner of Ibbett Mosely, said: “This is a rare one indeed and we think the best way is to place it in the open market. At the present time the opportunities for good investments are limited and people are looking for safe havens for their money. There is uncertainty in so much of the world economy and inevitably at these times of uncertainty gold and land increase in value.

“This is a rare opportunity to buy some six acres with a planning consent for a delightful agricultural country home in such a historic environment just south of Westerham. You can buy the property and think of Churchill passing by, driving down to historic Westerham and then up to the Commons during the critical years of the last war. The site looks out over delightful countryside and, in the Spring, it is carpeted by bluebells. There is also a spring fed stream and ponds. Not only this, there is also an independent dwelling on the site.”

Dr Wickham went on to say: “With such uncertainty in Europe and even in North America the British economy offers some stability with the sensible austerity measures and a real understanding of the need to control public sector expenditure. As a result, capital flows into London property and UK agricultural land are remarkably high. This must be a real opportunity in this desirable category of investment and the delightful Roderick James home would give a brilliant country retreat for somebody who wishes to live in an area so convenient to London, Gatwick, Heathrow and the City but redolent with British history.”

Best known for its residential and commercial property services, Ibbett Mosely offers a complete range of integrated property services, from selling, letting and property management to planning consultancy and design, surveying, architectural services and town planning.

Ibbett Mosely, which has been operating for more than 100 years, has offices in London, Sevenoaks, Otford, Borough Green, Westerham and West Malling and has some of the UK’s most experienced chartered surveyors on their team.

Viewing dates will be arranged by appointment with the auctioneers. Contact Ian Beagley, Westerham Office, on 01959 563265 or Alex Mitchel, Sevenoaks Office 01732 452446.
