‘One-of-a-Kind’ John Kim Unveils Offbeat Legal Video

HOUSTON – Houston lawyer John Kim is showing an animated side of himself that might make most attorneys nervous.

A one-minute video released this week features a cartoon version of Mr. Kim and focuses on the litigator’s courtroom skills. Mr. Kim, who heads up The Kim Law Firm, says the ad reflects his personal style, one that takes his work — but not himself — seriously.

“Most lawyer ads . . . well they’re lawyer ads,” says Mr. Kim. “I wanted something that was like me – quirky and entertaining, but not too obnoxious.”

The video touts Mr. Kim’s ability to communicate with juries and is based on surveys of his legal peers and courtroom opponents, who called him, among other things, “smart like a fox” and “an Asian Colombo.”

“The truth is I fight for my clients by emotionally investing in their cases,” Mr. Kim says. “I believe in being well-prepared and tough in the courtroom. But when you’re in trial, you have to connect with juries. And that’s a different skill set, one that I guess I have.”

A veteran in the courtroom, Mr. Kim is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and has earned selection to the Texas Super Lawyers list since it began in 2003.
