CollegesandUniversities.org is pleased to announce the first of a series of e-book guides for those looking to further their education. The first guide covers all aspects of adults returning to education – from the reasons why to the specific challenges facing ‘non-traditional’ students.Las Vegas, NV, September 13, 2011 -- CollegesandUniversities.org is a website that covers everything to do with higher education. As an added resource to visitors, the site is now offering downloadable e-book guides to aid those searching for the right education option. The first of these CU guides, entitled ‘The Essential Guide to College for Non-Traditional Students,’ is aimed at adults who are considering a return to education.
There are many reasons for going back to education at a later stage in life, and this guide covers the first stages in the process. It discusses the motives and goals behind a person’s decision to go back to school as an adult and the many advantages that it can bring. These include increased career opportunities and dramatically greater lifetime earnings.
‘The Essential Guide to College for Non-Traditional Students’ goes on to look at the particular challenges which face non-traditional students and how to overcome them. This includes the important fact that many adults who wish to return to education have to juggle their studies around current employment and family. It also looks at the advantages of education at an older age, along with the various financial aid which is available.
The guide also tackles another aspect which many non-traditional students are concerned about, and that is that their studying skills may have been forgotten or lying dormant. It gives advice about how to re-kindle the aptitude for learning and tips to ensure that goals are realistic and attainable.
There is advice about choosing the right college, university or online program and tips about how to narrow down the choice of establishments which might be considered suitable. The admissions procedure can be a little more challenging as a non-traditional student, so this is well covered in the guide. There is also a large section devoted to any work, life, or military experience that can be awarded credits which will count towards a new qualification.
The government is keen to encourage older people to return to education and the financial aspect of returning to school is often a major consideration. Because of this there are many different levels of financial help available dependent on individual circumstances. The various grants and type of aid that are on offer to non-traditional students are scrutinized and discussed.
Setting aside enough time for study can be a concern when various other aspects such as work and family have to be given adequate consideration. 'The Non-Traditional Student Guide to Higher Education' devotes a section to studying tips, and how to work towards and attain realistic goals whilst not detracting from an already busy lifestyle.
Lastly the guide gives some examples of those who have successfully combined family, work and life in general with returning to study. It takes a look at individuals who faced and overcame various challenges to gain the qualifications they wished. These include examples of people who wanted to learn further skills and those who were looking for a complete career change.
