SARASOTA, FLORIDA – Barbara Mei and Jo Rutstein of Signature Sotheby’s International Realty have joined forces as a Realtor team specializing in Sarasota luxury downtown condominiums.

Mei and Rutstein combine their years of real estate experience, passion for downtown Sarasota, love of the arts, and a shared appreciation for urban real estate. Their comprehensive knowledge of downtown area neighborhoods and condominium buildings, amenities and regulations makes them one of the leading downtown luxury specialists.

Born in Italy and raised in New York, Mei has represented some of New York City’s most prestigious homes and estates for more than 20 years, including managing the Corcoran Group’s Townhouse Division. She also independently managed more than 100,000 square feet of commercial and residential space. From age 12, helping with paperwork for her family’s rentals, her passion for real estate took root and has grown ever since. As she grew older, she succeeded in just about every facet of the real estate field, from residential and commercial property management, to construction management for new, renovation and restoration projects.

Mei also has an extensive scientific background as a research technician with prestigious research hospitals. Her methodical, tenacious approach to problem-solving is an asset in helping clients to navigate the many facets of a real estate transaction. Mei serves on the Sarasota board of the American Cancer Society and donates 10 percent of her commissions to R.O.C.K. (Reaching Out to Cancer Kids). She is a member at-large of the Women Presidents’ Association.


Rutstein brings more than 20 years of sales experience working in women’s apparel in New York City with major retailers including the May Corporation, Chico’s, Lane Bryant, TJ Maxx and Victoria’s Secret. She was ranked in the top 1 percent of Realtors in the Sarasota and Manatee County markets in 2010 and has earned the following designations: Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI), Certified Luxury Home Market Specialists (CLHMS), Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS), and Resort & Second-Home Property Specialist (RSPS). She is a recipient of the Five Star Real Estate Agent Award six years in a row for Best in Client Satisfaction.

Rutstein is a member of Women’s Council of Realtors and the Institute of Luxury Home Marketing. She is involved with the Sarasota Ballet, Sarasota Symphony and Sarasota Opera, and serves on the board of Children First and Sarasota Rotary Foundation.
