Bavarian Inn Celebrates National Chicken Month

Frankenmuth, MI – August 29, 2011 – Move over Labor Day and “Back to School,” September is all about “National Chicken Month.” The Bavarian Inn Restaurant invites diners to celebrate the entire month by offering more than 40 delicious chicken dishes in its main dining room and Roof Garden.

That’s not all. The Bavarian Inn Restaurant is also hosting games and contests that get the entire family involved. Visitors to Bavarian Inn can emerge themselves in 30 days of chicken-themed festivities, including trivia and other games, joining in a Chicken Dance flash mob, and shopping for featured poultry products in the Castle Shops.

Amy Grossi, general manager of the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, encourages people to embrace their inner feathered fowl and join in the fun. “There’s always a reason to celebrate at Bavarian Inn,” she says. “This month we’re honoring our favorite bird. No one thinks of Bavarian Inn without also thinking chicken.”

Bavarian Inn is Michigan’s Chicken capital, using more than 300 tons of chicken each year – each weighing about 3.25 pounds and cooked two at a time in giant kettles. While diners are most likely familiar with Bavarian Inn’s world-famous premium golden chicken dinners, visitors to the restaurant in September will have more than 40 selections from which to choose – all that put the magnificent bird front and center.

Examples include the ever-popular family dinners and combination plates, salads, pasta, sandwiches and other special entrees like Cordon Bleu and Chicken Breast Imperial.

“Chicken is a mainstay of the Bavarian Inn Menu,” says Grossi. “Chicken Month helps us raise awareness of some of our lesser-known items, such as the Fall Harvest Salat or our Chicken and Broccoli Pasta Alfredo. Our chefs, under the direction of my grandmother Dorothy Zehnder, create amazing dishes using chicken. That’s what makes us Michigan’s chicken capital.”

If you’d like to become part of Bavarian Inn royalty, the restaurant will crown a National Chicken Month King, Queen, Prince and Princess at Fischer Platz, the outdoor area at the Inn’s southeast corner. There are no fees to enter and participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to register. All participants compete as individuals rather than couples.

The Chicken Prince and Princess Contest begins at 2:30 p.m., and include a Chicken Dance Competition; a floating Chicken Egg Regatta, Chicken Bowling; and Pin the Egg on the Chicken Game. The Prince and Princess each receive a $20 Bavarian Inn Gift Card and will be featured in Bavarian Inn’s promotional materials.

The Chicken King and Queen Contest begins at 4 p.m., and includes a Chicken Strongman to determine who can hold the Frankenmuth® Chicken Takeout the longest; a Chicken Dance Competition; Chicken Bowling; and a Chicken Egg Regatta. The King and Queen will receive a chicken dinner for four and be featured in Bavarian Inn’s promotional materials.

And if all that’s not enough, come join the party Sept. 3, before 4 p.m. wearing a visible, chicken-themed article of clothing to receive a Free Chicken Bratwurst (while supplies last). Now that’s something to cluck about!

Now in its third decade, National Chicken Month reminds consumers about the benefits chicken. It is a versatile and delicious alternative to beef and pork, is an excellent source of lean protein, can be prepared in hundreds of delicious ways, and continues to help shoppers and diners stretch their food dollars.
