iSOCO organises 15th eSourcing Forum aimed at increasing

Madrid, August 2011.- The IT company brought together over a hundred experts to discuss the importance of purchasing in business results

Executives from Spain's leading companies were brought together in Madrid by iSOCO to reflect on the importance of the relationship with the supply market and providers as a strategic factor in business management.

The company, an international leader in semantic technology and artificial intelligence, organises the eSourcing Forum, a unique event focussing on innovation in the field of purchasing, in which professionals in the sector share experiences, knowledge and best practices.

For over ten years, iSOCO has been working on the development of technological solutions for optimising the relationship between companies and the supply market. Their consolidated experience in this field has coincided with a greater influence of purchasing departments in the balance sheets of companies in recent years. Indeed, all the speakers identified improving efficiency as a key objective for organisations. This, according to the iSOCO general manager, Javier Aróstegui, "is not viable without a combination of two essential factors bound by innovation: seeking the participation of every area of the company in relation to providers and taking advantage of the resources offered by new technology to optimise this relationship".

In Aróstegui's mind, "at a time of economic recession like the one we are going through, we must innovate and restructure the role of purchasing to achieve better efficiency in results".

An area undergoing transformation to improve the relationship with providers

The advent of social networks as a new communication setting was a focal point of this year's forum. In her talk on 'Social networks for providers: opportunities', the expert in social media and lecturer at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), Dolors Reig, underlined the potential of these platforms for improving the relationship with providers and to manage knowledge on the supply markets.

The Repsol YPF purchasing manager, Javier Arongoa, in his talk on 'Strategies in low-competition markets', discussed company management in markets in which there is limited competition, like the energy sector. In this context, Arangoa underlined the function of the combinatorial auction as a tool for increasing competition among providers.

Under the title 'Commodities Purchasing Management', the Panrico-Donuts purchasing manager, Miguel Benítez, focused his talk on the primary markets. More specifically, Benítez discussed a practical case of how to mitigate the volatility that currently exists in this kind of market to avoid adverse effects on the company's profitability.

The Madrid Metro contracting manager, Víctor Jiménez, gave a presentation on the evolution that he has experienced in the function of purchasing in a public enterprise. It is a sector in which the quest for transparency and the standardisation of contracting processes have led to the transformation of this area, which currently has new electronic solutions to make management of these processes more efficient.

Finally, the ALSTOM purchasing manager, Jordi Teixidó, gave a talk on 'Alstom and its multinational purchasing model', presenting the company's methodology for successfully implementing the purchasing process when new production plants are opened.

The eSourcing Forum was set up in 2003 by iSOCO with the aim of becoming a meeting place in which the leading companies could share their experiences in the field of innovation in relation to the supply markets and providers. The next edition will take place in Barcelona next October.

iSOCO, which is currently seeking to have a presence in the main international markets, is a specialist in the development of innovative solutions and high-added-value services through proprietary technology aimed at improving efficiency in the company's relationship to supply and demand.
