Bauhaus Special: New Online Design Course

Bauhaus Special: New Online Design Course

Munich, December 31, 2019: For 100 years, the German State Bauhaus has inspired and shaped the ways of thinking and working of architects, designers and artists worldwide. The online portal Quilt around the World is taking this anniversary as an opportunity to look more closely at the innovative art and pluralistic teaching at the Bauhaus in a special edition of the design course "My Year of Design TWO (MYoD2)."

Adventurous quilters and textile crafters are invited on a journey of "thinking and making" to experience the legendary art schools in Weimar, Dessau and Berlin in a self-study online course with 14 entertaining and challenging design exercises, adapted for working predominantly with textile materials. The course concept gives plenty of room for experiments with colours, shapes, materials, and unusual ideas, makes creative work tangible with all the senses, and at the same time conveys interesting background information about some Bauhaus artists and their work.

Participation fee for the online course: 15 euros

Bauhaus Challenge

In addition, all participants are very welcome to submit textile pieces resulting from their virtual study tour to the Bauhaus and their work on the design exercises to the Bauhaus Challenge. An international jury of accredited quilt judges will evaluate all entries according to objective criteria and provide participants with expert and constructive feedback on their textile piece(s). All participants will receive a certificate and have the chance to win an attractive non-cash prize. For the participation in the Bauhaus Challenge there are additional fees.

It is also planned to present the submitted textile pieces at a quilt show or a textile art gallery as part of the Bauhaus Exhibition starting in autumn 2020.

All information on the MYoD2 special edition "Bauhaus 1919-2019", on how to register for the online course and on the entry rules for the Bauhaus Challenge can now be found at www.quilt-around-the-world.com/en/bauhaus.
