Stevens-Henager College Offers NLNAC-Accredited Associate’s in Nursing Education Program

Salt Lake City, Utah, August 22, 2011 - In an economic climate where jobs can be scarce, nursing education seems to be a fulfilling and stable career choice. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, currently 10 out of the 20 fastest-growing professions are healthcare related, and healthcare will generate more jobs over the next eight years than any other industry. Responding to the demand for qualified healthcare professionals, Stevens-Henager College has added the Associate Degree in Nursing Education to its existing list of healthcare programs. It’s currently offered at the Ogden, Utah and Layton – Satellite of Ogden campuses.

The Associate Degree in Nursing Education provides students with the theoretical foundation, technical training, and practical experience graduates need, through classroom instruction, patient care simulation, and clinical experience, in order to prepare and qualify them to successfully fulfill the role of a registered general nurse. Furthermore, this program can help prepare to successfully pass the National Council Licensure Examination or NCLEX-RN exam, which is a requirement for obtaining a nursing license. (Note that certifications require extra time and expense outside of the degree program.)

The course duration is 28 months, but it can be completed in as few as 22 months. The criteria for admission to the Associate Degree in Nursing Education program include:

• High school diploma or GED equivalency
• Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above in college and/or high school
• Nurse Entrance Test (NET) or GAP test
• SLE exam score of at least 24 (LPN and Medical Specialties graduates are exempt)
• Six months experience as an active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• CPR certification
• Proof of immunizations, health insurance, and approval of complete medical history
• Clean drug test
• Criminal background check with satisfactory results
• Proctored essay in accordance with outlines provided by Stevens-Henager College
• Personal interviews with the nursing admission committee
