Choose reputable tyre fitters for part-worn tyres, Fast Fit Centre warns
Summary: A tyre fitter has recommended that people use reputable traders to avoid the dangers associated with unsafe tyres.Following news that a trader in Wigan was found to be selling unsafe part-worn tyres, St Helens’ tyre fitter the Fast Fit Centre has advised motorists to ensure that they only use reputable traders.
Wigan Council’s Trading Standards Team carried out test purchases over November, buying six tyres and discovering one of them was dangerous.
Commenting for the Fast Fit Centre, Kevin Burke said:
“Unsafe part-worn tyres put people at risk - drivers, pedestrians and other road users rely on tyres to be roadworthy.
“The dangers are exacerbated over winter, when the roads are slippery, icy, wet and dark.
“Tyre dealerships and tyre fitters must ensure that any part-worn tyres they sell achieve legal standars, and have PART-WORN stamped on them.”
The Motor Vehicle Tyres (Safety) Regulations 1994 prohibit supplying part-worn tyres for motor vehicles or trailers unless they reach certain standards and have specific markings.
