Social Media Marketing’s Trends Report 2020

Social Media Marketing (social-media-marketing.uk) has released its trend report for 2020. In it, they predict a substantial increase in social media platforms being used for commerce.

“Facebook, Instagram and other platforms like Pinterest, are already being used for social commerce but we expect it to increase by at least 10% during 2020. The evolution of Instagram Storefronts and shoppable posts on Facebook will strengthen the market.”

In other trends, Social Media Marketing expects video content to dominate advertising and posts by businesses in the next 12 months. According to a recent Cisco study, 82% of all online content will be video by 2022.

In a surprising trend, Social Media Marketing is expecting Instagram to leapfrog Facebook in usage in the next 12 months. “Many insiders took a sharp intake of breath when Facebook purchased Instagram in 2012 for $1 billion, considering it only had 30 million users and in 2018, Facebook’s usage declined (source: Edison Research), while Instagram increased.

“But Instagram is the perfect mobile app and as 80+ percent of social media is experienced on mobiles, users are only a single photo or video-click away from a post on Instagram, whereas posting to Facebook is deemed to be a more long-winded process. Tie ease of posting with the ease of creating stories, and Instagram will be the winner a year from now.”
