Last night, British luxury leather company Maxwell-Scott was named Exporter Of The Year at The York Press’ yearly business award ceremony held at York Racecourse.

Yesterday, Thursday 21st November, The York Press hosted its annual business awards to celebrate the region’s brands that are succeeding in exploiting new opportunities, creating wealth, employing more people and contributing to the local economy. With all of this, the awards champion businesses from all sectors across York, North and East Yorkshire, recognising the entrepreneurial success of individuals, as well as small and large enterprises.

Maxwell-Scott is, therefore, honoured to have won the Exporter of the Year award which recognises their commitment to creating an international brand. As an Export Advocate, as part of the Department of International Trade’s Exporting Is Great campaign, Maxwell-Scott aims to highlight the opportunities that exporting has to offer. Consequently, Maxwell-Scott has always been interested in being as open as possible to trade across countries. In order to achieve this, CEO and founder William Scott Forshaw has created a business structure and employee base that is internationally focused.

He is thrilled with the win: “It is such a pleasure to have won this incredible award from The York Press. At Maxwell-Scott, we are committed to embracing international markets as it has been such a source of growth for the business. We are incredibly excited for the future as we continue to expand into current and new markets, as well as continuing to grow as an international team. For The York Press to recognise our success in this field is particularly special too, as we pride ourselves on our Yorkshire roots.”

For Maxwell-Scott, being named as Exporter of the Year is a fitting conclusion to a successful year in which the brand has launched a new women’s collection and increased revenue across all countries by more than 17% compared to the previous year. With thanks to The York Press for such a memorable evening and continuing support, Maxwell-Scott is immensely pleased to be Exporter of the Year for 2019.

About Maxwell-Scott

Maxwell-Scott was founded by Harrogate-born William Scott Forshaw in 2002. His focus was to create pieces which were crafted in order to last an entire career with his passion for Italian leather a result of his mother’s travels. His aim has always been to act as an antidote to the fast fashion industry as the epitome of fine Italian artistry combined with timeless British design.

William searched tirelessly for the right factory, finally settling on a family-run factory in the heart of Tuscany. Here, in Italy’s traditional leather industry, the Maxwell-Scott artisans now handcraft each briefcase, handbag, holdall and smaller accessory. Their knowledge and workmanship form the crucial foundation to Maxwell-Scott. In fact, each piece has a 25 year guarantee - an absolute imperative for William as he designs accessories to last a lifetime and a testament to slow consumerism.

A significant factor in this is the choice of premium materials. Maxwell-Scott only sources the very best full grain, vegetable-tanned leather. As a member of the Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium, each western cowhide is dyed using antique recipes with the tannins derived from tree bark rather than any toxic substances. This means that there is a respectful and natural finish to all Maxwell-Scott leather which only improves with age as it develops a unique patina over time. This quality leather is then translated into classic pieces for the modern consumer in a family-run factory.

Due to this commitment to only the very best quality, Maxwell-Scott has evolved into an international brand with websites in the UK, US, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria and Australia. This York Press award now marks another chapter in the Maxwell-Scott journey - a lot of time, hardwork and dedication has gone into reaching this point.
