QUERENCIA AT BARTON CREEK RESIDENT DOES BOOK SIGNING AT “SKY-BLUE PINK” PARTY

Querencia at Barton Creek senior living community recently hosted a book signing for their own resident author, Dotty Brooks. Brooks, author of Sky-blue Pink, signed copies of her book and chatted with fellow residents while sipping on pink champagne with blueberries and blue cake balls with pink stripes, all inspired by her fascinating book.

“We were all tickled to hear Dotty talk about her life and experiences,” said Leslie Dominguez, director of sales and marketing at Querencia. “She is such a charming lady who has lived such an interesting life and has fabulous stories. We are honored that she chose to sit down with us and her fellow residents to sign books.”

Brooks’ great-grandfather published a book about her family’s Acadian heritage, and she wanted to give her family a taste of the history from her own generation. She started jotting down memories and after 25 years had collected about 400 pages of them. Following a heart-attack, by-pass surgery and a stroke, one of Brooks’ daughters came to help her and strongly encouraged her mother to compile all of her memories into a book. The mother and daughter team went to work, and with the help of Brook’s word processor, Sky-blue Pink was born. The book is a wonderful autobiography about Brooks’ life as a television producer in New Orleans, a wife, a mother to five and as an artist. Brooks’ four daughters were able to attend the book signing, making the day even more special for Brooks.
