Portrait US-President Obama (reduced image resolution)

Collage of colorful plates of all U.S. states showing President Barack Obama.
The Berlin Wall was built on August 13, 1961, and divided Germany for 28 years. On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the erection of the Berlin Wall, the international artist WALLEY BERLIN intends to perform with his wall models a demonstration for freedom and against the destruction of the European idea at the Brandenburg Gate. He sees the responsibility for the success of this common idea is not alone among politicians, but with each individual. The (probably) only contemporary "wall artist" from today describes himself as a "German, European and international artist". "Freedom" is the great theme, the message of his artistic work. It should not be limited to the Berlin Wall and the area of Europe, he thinks, and he is interested in other countries of the world as well.
WALLEY BERLIN is still enthusiastic about the American President Barack Obama:
"Obama was elected to the American president a few years ago, and many people put great hopes in him. Certainly, some expected some miracle from him, what one man alone can hardly meet. The general enthusiasm for the personality and President Barack Obama may have subsided somewhat, but am still convinced of his personality. Barack Obama gives his best within his means. Doubtless, he does his job despite all the political and economic adversity better than most of his predecessors. He is a real character! For this reason, I have dedicated to him my painstaking work: One portrait of Barack Obama consisting of photos of thousands of colourful license plates of all states within the USA. As a template, I used the official inauguration portrait photograph of President Obama.
Since my early childhood car registration plates from all over the world fascinate me. In over 30 years of my collecting passion, I built a collection of thousands of license plates from all over the world on. I received these over the many years of car dealers and by helpful government authorities. The signs are now on permanent loan in an automobile museum. Even today, I am interested in the collection of license plates, in addition to my art. Finally, I got the idea to combine both interests. Therefore, I rigged up my image of Obama from thousands of photos of US license plates of all states. Especially the American plates offered the best conditions for my project: They are provided with all sorts of different colors and graphics in 50 different states. My picture is now ready for President Barack Obama!"

WALLEY BERLIN seeks now a new target for his artistic work. More information about the artist and his Berlin Wall project is available on his webpage WWW.WALLEY-BERLIN.DE
