How Pharmacists Can Contribute to Patient Diabetes Care

Bellevue, Wash. -- Wolters Kluwer Health announced today that Pharmacy OneSource, software-as-a-service provider of Sentri7, a clinical surveillance, documentation and reporting application, is hosting a complimentary webinar with Daphne Smith-Marsh, PharmD, on "Pharmacists' Role in Diabetes Care Management".

Diabetes mellitus affects 25.8 million Americans and has an enormous impact on the United States health care system. Pharmacists are health professionals who can positively affect the care of persons with diabetes through self-management and medication education. Innovative pharmacist practices in diabetes management have improved clinical and economic health care outcomes. 

Smith-Marsh will review clinical practice recommendations for diabetes management, discuss innovative and collaborative pharmacist practices in diabetes management and describe the Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) credential.

About the Presenter: Dr. Daphne E. Smith Marsh received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1997. Currently, she is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy. Dr. Smith Marsh is also a Clinical Pharmacist in Ambulatory Care at the UIC Medical Center. She provided disease state education and co-management with physicians for 10 years in the UIC Internal Medicine and Endocrinology clinics. Her primary clinic practice is now in the Medication Therapy Management Clinic, where she continues to work closely with persons with diabetes. Dr. Smith Marsh is a Certified Diabetes Educator, who also provides patient education through the UIC Diabetes Wellness Education Program.

Dr. Smith Marsh has been a featured speaker for local and national pharmacy and health care organizations and has published literature related to diabetes care. She enjoys community service and is an ambassador and presenter for the American Diabetes Association's LIVE EMPOWERED, a program that increases diabetes awareness in the African American community.
