A Cut above the Rest: BITS Pilani Work-Integrated Learning Programmes
Since 1979, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani has been participating in the human resources development activities of the industries through several degree programmes by integrating the working environment of the employees with the learning environment required by the Institute. Work-integrated learning and e-learning at BITS Pilani are not just treated as philosophies and technologies but also as pedagogical drivers.Considering that present day information technologies can allow a rich interactive learning experience that may surpass the interactivity of a traditional classroom, the BITS model of off-campus education emphasizes on acquisition of knowledge and skills through mediated information and deploys synchronous instruction through Internet based desktop video conferencing as well as asynchronous instruction through on-demand lectures. BITS Pilani also provides Full Text Online Book Access Facility for the students of the work integrated learning programmes.
BITS Pilani offers 6-semester Integrated First Degree Programmes in BS Engineering Technology (ET) and BS Information Systems (IS) for employed professionals holding a technical diploma or an undergraduate degree like B.Sc. etc. with minimum two year relevant experience in Engineering Industries (for ET) or IT Industries (for IS).
BITS Pilani offers 4-semester Higher Degree Programmes in MS Software Systems (SS) and MS Manufacturing Management (MM) for employed professionals holding an Integrated First Degree of BITS or equivalent such as BE / MSc with minimum one year relevant experience in IT Industries (for SS) and Engineering Industries (for MM).
In collaboration with INDIAN INSTITUTE OF QUALITY MANAGEMENT (IIQM), JAIPUR, BITS Pilani offers a 4- semester M.S. Quality Management for employed professionals with minimum one year relevant experience in Quality and related services holding an Integrated First Degree of BITS or equivalent such as BE / MSc. This programme has mandatory intensive contact sessions for two weeks at Bangalore / Chennai / Jaipur from July 02 to July 14, 2007 during the first semester, and from January 07 to January 19, 2008 during the second semester.
In collaboration with BOMBAY HOSPITAL, MUMBAI / INDORE and CHRISTIAN MEDICAL COLLEGE (CMC), VELLORE BITS Pilani offers a 4-semester M.Phil. Hospital and Health Systems Management for employed professionals with minimum one year relevant work experience in well-established healthcare organizations holding M.B.B.S. degree or its equivalent or an Integrated First Degree of BITS or its equivalent such as BE / MSc. This programme has mandatory intensive contact sessions for four weeks at Bombay Hospital, Mumbai (from June 25 to July 21, 2007) or at Bombay Hospital, Indore (from July 02 to July 28, 2007) or at CMC, Vellore (from July 02 to July 28, 2007) during the first semester, and at BITS, Pilani (from January 14 to February 09, 2008) during the second semester.
For the above programmes, application form and programme details can be downloaded from the BITS web-site http://www.bits-pilani.ac.in/dlp-home and the deadline for submission of duly completed application form (alongwith the requisite processing fee) to Dean, DLPD, BITS, Pilani 333031 (Rajasthan) is 5.00 P.M. on MAY 11, 2007.
BITS also operates several other collaborative programmes with many industries across the country in functional areas directed towards their HRD needs. Any organization interested in such collaborative programmes may write to the Institute for details.
