$10 Million in Wellness Grants Announced
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) will provide funding for comprehensive wellness programs.Royal Oak, MI, July 01, 2011 -- The Affordable Care Act (ACA) will provide funding for comprehensive wellness programs. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services just announced that $10 million is available to boost health conditions and combat the associated costs to businesses.
The funds will be provided to a experienced health provider through competitive contract to provide wellness programs to businesses of all sizes across the nation. Over time, section 10408 of the ACA is expected to provide $200M in funding for comprehensive wellness programs.
About 100 employers over 7 regions will be provided with a comprehensive workplace health protection and promotion program. Eligible organizations cannot currently have a workplace health program in place.
Worksites will be selected based upon leadership support, baseline data, and willingness to collaborate with other participating awardees in the region. Organizations with more than 500 full-time employees will need to provide $50,000 in matching funds for consideration.
Funding will also be provided for evaluation of the programs. Wellco is currently facilitating 10 pilot programs as precursors to the National Prevention Strategy and assisting with employer planning for comprehensive programming.
