Press release from: White Plains Hospital

White Plains, NY – White Plains Hospital employees Roseanne Braiotta (of New Rochelle), Director of Volunteer Services and Sue Lowden, RN, (of New Rochelle) a nurse on staff, along with their dogs Brady and Molly, received their therapy dog re-certification from Delta Society on May 12th.

Brady and Molly are among eight dogs participating in White Plains Hospital’s pet therapy program - Caring Canines. In order to qualify for the Caring Canines program, dogs and their owners must participate in series of training classes, pass the required testing, and get a pet therapy certification. Delta Society requires therapy dogs be re-certified every two years.

Caring Canines is an important program for WPH. The dogs and their handlers visit patients offering comfort and stress reduction. The interaction between patient and dog can help lower patient’s blood pressure to improve heart and lung function, decrease anxiety, depression and loneliness, and so much more. And the benefit is not just to the patients- therapy dogs provide stress relief for staff as well.
