Amigo Power Operated Vehicles/Scooters Shipping to Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia

Bridgeport, Mich., June 24, 2011 – Bridgeport, Mich. based Amigo Mobility International, Inc. received an order for 99 Amigo POV/scooters from the largest pharmaceutical company in the Middle East, Al-Nahdi Medical Co, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. “Amigo’s abilities to customize finalized the purchase,” said Kamal Abu Ashour, spokesperson for Al-Nahdi Medical.

The Amigos will be rented for use inside the Grand Mosque for a Muslim’s “Hajj” or pilgrimage, which is required once during their lifetime and occurs annually in the months of August and November. Beginning this year, pilgrims with walking limitations will rely on the assistance of Amigo POV/scooters built in Michigan.

Each Amigo, to be driven on a designated track, has a programmed maximum speed of 4.1 mph (6.4 kph) in order to keep the flow of people moving consistently and safely throughout the Grand Mosque, which occupies 88.2 acres (356,800 square meters) of land and has a capacity of four million people. Included in the shipment of the Amigos are 10 customized Tag Along seats used for added transport of another occupant. Hitched to the back of the Amigo, the Tag Along can be used to transport an individual who is not able to operate the Amigo on their own. Additional customized features include larger batteries, a surround bumper with stability wheels and an underbody plate to protect against sand and moisture. Due to be shipped in late June, the 40 foot (12.2 m) container will be shipped by sea with arrival slated for late July.

After a year of negotiations, the order from Al-Nahdi Medical was received at Amigo Mobility in May. Vice President of Sales Dietrich Mackel remarks, “Amigo Mobility is honored to promote the positive working relationship between the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
