United State of Women Announces Three Chicago Ambassadors to Lead Local Gender Equity Movements

Chicago, IL. -- Yesterday, the United State of Women announced its second class of Chicago Ambassadors, as part of a new, national program to train and equip women to take action for gender equity in their communities. Three ambassador representing local communities, corporations, and universities, were accepted into the one-year program:

Shreya Singh of the 28th Ward (Related Midwest, The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, University of Michigan Ross School of Business)

Carla Kupe, Esq. of the 43rd Ward (Speak Truth Summit, Chicago State University, Loyola University School of Law, Kalamazoo College)

Kate Liebelt of the 42nd Ward (Deloitte Consulting LLP, Washington University in Saint Louis College of Arts & Sciences / Olin School of Business, University of Pennsylvania School of Medical Ethics and Health Policy)

The Ambassador Program is an opportunity for current and future leaders passionate about improving gender equity, no matter their background or previous experience. Ambassadors
work with USOW staff to bring together a wide range of stakeholders in their community interested in achieving a more united #StateofWomen.

In their new roles, Ms. Singh, Ms. Kupe and Ms. Liebelt will build and support coalitions with community leaders, organizations, and fellow activists who are working towards gender equity in their communities as well as amplify the work happening in their community through USOW’s national channels.

The expanded second cohort is due to the incredible work of the inaugural class of USOW Ambassadors. Last year, Ms. Singh founded an accelerator for business and non-profit organizations led by women. The cohort is comprised of 10 women who are building their firms through a workshop series, consisting of developing a business plan, raising financial capital, creating marketing strategies and enhancing their presence as female leaders.

“Chicago is absolutely at a critical point in its history in terms of gender equity,” said Carla Kupe, Esq., a new Chicago Ambassador for the United State of Women. “We are excited about producing programs throughout the year to galvanize communities across the Chicagoland area and the state of Illinois,” added Kate Liebelt, also a new Chicago Ambassador.

Throughout the year, Ms. Singh, Ms. Kupe and Ms. Liebelt will host educational forums to connect and engage diverse communities on the topic of gender equity. A United State of Women launch event is scheduled for Thursday, September 5, 5:30. Registration details will be available at www.speaktruthsummit.com.

Background on The United State of Women

The United State of Women is a national organization dedicated to convening, connecting, and amplifying voices in the fight for full gender equity. We are a community for all who identify as women, gender-nonconforming, or allies and believe in full gender equity and want to work collectively to achieve it. Born out of the Obama Administration’s White House Council on Women and Girls, USOW holds a unique position within the movement. We sit at an uncommon intersection of politics, community engagement, culture change, and leadership development. This profile allows us to serve as a go-to platform for partners, stakeholders, and our community to address issues facing women through an intersectional lens. Specifically, USOW works to create change on these issue pillars: Civic Engagement, Supporting Survivors of Gender-Based Violence, Human Rights, Health and Reproductive Justice, Economic Empowerment, Access to
Education, and Leadership and Community Organizing. For more information on the United State of Women, visit www.theunitedstateofwomen.org, follow @USOWomen on Instagram and Twitter, check out @TheUnitedStateofWomen on Facebook, and subscribe to
