airberlin and American Airlines expand codeshare agreement

The codeshare agreement with American Airlines will help airberlin to further strengthen our position in that growing market and allow airberlin passengers to make use of the extensive American Airlines network. airberlin and American Airlines have been codesharing since November 2010 on several transatlantic as well as U.S. domestic and intra-European flights. In accordance with the code share agreement, American Airlines merchandises all of airberlin’s non-stop flights into the U.S. (Fort Myers, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco). In return, airberlin is code sharing on American Airlines’ flights from Frankfurt to Dallas/Fort Worth as well as from Zürich to New York-JFK. In addition to the five U.S. destinations of airberlin there are now 16 further U.S. destinations as well as Nassau on the Bahamas that may be reached via the hubs of American Airlines in Los Angeles, Miami and New York-JFK.
airberlin is Germany's second largest airline. The company has a workforce of 8,900 employees. In 2010 alone, airberlin received over 10 awards for service and quality. The fleet comprises of 170 aircraft with an average age of five years, making it one of the most modern fleets in Europe. The airline's state-of-the-art jets are highly fuel efficient, which contributes toward a long-term reduction in pollution emissions from aircraft. As one of the major European airlines, airberlin flies to 163 destinations in 39 countries. In 2010, the airline carried 33.6 million passengers. airberlin has signed up for membership to the global airline alliance oneworld® and is expected to become a full member at the start of 2012. airberlin has been offering flights under codeshare agreements with American Airlines and Finnair since November 2010.
