airberlin and American Airlines expand codeshare agreement

airberlin and American Airlines have expanded their codeshare relationship to include airberlin’s new services between Berlin-Tegel and New York-JFK. The non-stop flight operates since May 2011 every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday between the German capital and New York. With the addition of this new flight, the codeshare agreement between airberlin and American Airlines now encompasses the entire U.S. network of the second largest German carrier.

Ulf Hüttmeyer, Chief Financial Officer airberlin, said: “The U.S. is an increasingly important market for airberlin with 26 weekly nonstop flights from our two German gateways Berlin and Düsseldorf. The codeshare agreement with American Airlines will help airberlin to further strengthen our position in that growing market and allow airberlin passengers to make use of the extensive American Airlines network. We look forward to intensifying our partnership with American Airlines and signing more code shares in the future.”

airberlin and American Airlines have been codesharing since November 2010 on several transatlantic as well as U.S. domestic and intra-European flights. In accordance with the code share agreement, American Airlines merchandises all of airberlin’s non-stop flights into the U.S. (Fort Myers, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco). In return, airberlin is code sharing on American Airlines’ flights from Frankfurt to Dallas/Fort Worth as well as from Zürich to New York-JFK. In addition to the five U.S. destinations of airberlin there are now 16 further U.S. destinations as well as Nassau on the Bahamas that may be reached via the hubs of American Airlines in Los Angeles, Miami and New York-JFK.
