Gardere Earns Legal 500 Technology, M&A and Real Estate Honors

DALLAS – Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP has earned recognition in the prestigious 2011 U.S. edition of The Legal 500 based on the firm’s work for clients in technology transactions, middle-market mergers and acquisitions, and real estate matters.

The Legal 500 directory is published by LegalEase, a worldwide provider of information on elite law firms that compiles the annual list of the country’s leading law firms based on peer recommendations and commercial client interviews.

In The Legal 500 coverage of Gardere’s technology transactions practice, Dallas partner Peter Vogel, chair of the Electronic Discovery group and co-chair of the Internet, eCommerce and Technology industry team at Gardere, earned high individual accolades from clients based on his legal expertise, business and market knowledge, and responsiveness. Mr. Vogel and fellow firm attorneys regularly advise web and software development companies, Internet hosts, and manufacturers of computer chips and communications technology, biotechnology and medical devices, as well as customers of these and other Internet-based services, including social media.

In the discussion of the firm’s middle-market M&A practice, the publication notes that Houston partner Daniel Cohen, co-chair of the firm’s M&A group, “has the ability to understand both sides of the negotiations and to know when something is worthy of a fight or not,” concluding that he is “the reason some clients use the firm.” The publication describes the firm’s M&A group as “very responsive and worth the dollars charged,” including the firm’s work for Precision Pipeline, a pipeline construction company, in its sale to MasTec, and the firm’s longtime representation of Ennis Paint, including assisting with the acquisition of all assets held by Pervo Paint Company and all stock held by GT Industries. The team also represented Brazos Equity Partners in the acquisition of 51 percent of Flint Trading, and Trican Well Service in the purchase of certain assets of Vanguard Stimulation Services.

Dallas’ Kevin Kelley was recognized as the leader of the firm’s real estate group, which earned high recommendations in The Legal 500 for its ability to provide development, acquisition, disposition, financing, leasing and operation and management advice for clients across the United States. Also earning individual recognition from the real estate group was Randall Jones of the firm’s Houston office for his work advising Arts Center Enterprises on its renovation and restoration of the King’s Theatre in Brooklyn, N.Y. In its look at the group, The Legal 500 detailed the firm’s work for Western Hospitality on all phases involving a number of new or existing Marriott and Hilton branded hotels, and for the Gencom Group on acquisitions relating to the partly completed Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage hotel and residential project in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
