The event is an EU/DGT Translating Europe Workshop organised in partnership with FIT Europe and is being held with the support of the office of the EU Commission in Athens.
The event aims to explore how the translation and interpreting profession can contribute to addressing the challenges of multi-lingual communication in crisis settings by:
• understanding and articulating the challenges inherent in crisis communication
• outlining cultural and ethical questions pertaining to translation and interpreting in crisis settings, and by
• proposing and agreeing solutions and best practice relating to the training, qualification and work of translators and interpreters in such settings
The speakers are from both Greece and the rest of Europe and include many stakeholders involved in the area: government agencies, NGOs, academia, practitioners and representatives of professional associations of translators and interpreters.
All places at the event are fully subscribed but participation is still possible via web stream. The relevant link for online participation will be announced on Thursday, 20 June.

FIT Europe is the Regional Centre of the International Federation of Translators (FIT) It focuses on translation and interpreting issues in Europe
