LOS ANGELES, May 27, 2011 – Southern California Managing Partner Joel Anik of Grant Thornton LLP will present a check for $101,954 on behalf of the Grant Thornton Foundation to the Board of Directors of the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of Red Cross at their Board meeting on Thursday, May 26 at the California Club in downtown Los Angeles.

“I’m proud of our Grant Thornton personnel who, in the face of tough economic times, are still willing and consider it a privilege to help others in need,” said Mr. Anik. “With the donations of other Grant Thornton member firm personnel who have donated to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies through the GTInet link, I am confident the entire Grant Thornton organization will make a big difference in the lives of the people of Japan.”

The employees of Grant Thornton donated $51,954 that was matched by the Grant Thornton Foundation with a grant of $50,000. The donation of $101,954 will be presented to the chairman of the board Jeffrey Sakaguchi by Mr. Anik who serves on the board of the Greater Los Angeles Chapter.

“On behalf of the American Red Cross, I would like to thank the employees of Grant Thornton for their generous contribution towards the feeding, sheltering of those effected by the earthquake and ensuing tsunami in Japan,” Said Red Cross spokesperson Paul Schulz. Your gift is making the long term recovery of thousands of people possible.”

More than two months after the devastating earthquake, aftershocks and additional earthquakes continue to plague the area around Japan. Now, again testing the incredible resilience of the Japanese people, nuclear power stations across Japan are making preparations to guard against risks of frequent tremors and the upcoming typhoon season.
