Press release from: Dylan Kay

The London-based guitarist now offers Skype guitar lessons that make it easy for his students to learn—no matter where they are in the world

Fitting guitar lessons into a busy schedule is a challenge for some people. To overcome that obstacle for his clients and anyone else that wants to learn to play but can’t seem to find the time, professional guitar teacher Dylan Kay has begun offering guitar lessons using Skype. Not only does learning guitar using the free Skype software save money by allowing students to learn from the comfort of home, it’s a lot easier to fit into a busy schedule. Now anyone can pencil in time for a lesson.

Professional guitar teacher Dylan Kay has over 15 years of teaching experience, including teaching at London’s Institute of Contemporary Music Performance since 2004. He started doing Skype guitar lessons six months ago to ease the travel burden on his students.

“I had a couple of students who traveled up to two hours each way for their lesson, and I thought that there must be a way to make their lives easier. Now their lessons just take 1 hour,” Dylan said.

To start learning, potential students simply need a guitar, a computer with a web cam, broadband Internet connection and the Skype software. So far, feedback from students has been extremely positive, many being surprised just how well this method works.

“Most people I have talked to had no idea this could be done, but with so many people using Skype to contact family and friends, it seemed a logical next step for my teaching. I have also found we get more achieved in these lessons. There’s less time wasted with people turning up late, taking off coats, tuning up etc and people tend to be more relaxed in their own home,” Dylan said.

The whole process has made scheduling, teaching and learning so much easier for both Dylan and his students. Students can sign up for lessons through Dylan’s website (www.dylankay.co.uk) and access an online calendar which allows them to see which slots are available. Payment is made through Paypal and lesson notes are simply emailed in advance or during the lesson. The lesson is recorded and emailed allowing the student to review the material later on their own when they are practising.

The internet indeed has brought about many wonderful things. Being able to get expert guitar teaching without leaving home is definitely one of them. Whether it’s learning a few chords, or learning to play jazz guitar, the world really is getting smaller.
