11. Fotomarathon in Berlin 18.Jun.2011 - Creativity under time pressure in the photo event of the year.

1 city, 12 hours, 24 photos –this is what participants will go through next 18. June 2011 at the 11th Berlin Fotomarathon. The Fotomarathon is a photo challenge under extreme conditions, and a unique discovery tour. Within 12 hours, participants must develop a 24 photo series following a given order for their photos. There is an overall theme as leit motiv, which as the individual themes, remains undisclosed until the day of the competition. Spontaneity, creativity, persistence and enjoying photography are in high demand. Year after year, the Fotomarathon day yields thousands of individual portraits of the diverse and dynamic life in Berlin.

The organisers expect around 500 enthusiastic participants –from amateur photographers to professionals. The loyal Fotomarathon community grows steadily and the participants come from near and far. All the locations –from the start until the end meeting points, as well as intermediate stations- are chosen with care by the organisers, as the discovery of hidden Berlin corners is an important element of the Berlin Fotomarathon concept.

For the first time since 2007 the Fotomarathon is re-opening the door for 30 participants to give their analogue cameras a good run for a day. This retro action goes back to the roots, where every shot had to be right in only one click!

The registration opened on 23.04 and takes place online under www.fotomarathon.de. There is a participant´s fee. The only prerequisite is to have a camera and a minimum age of 18. Spaces are limited.

All photo series are presented in an Exhibition –another unique feature of the Fotomarathon. A highly qualified independent Jury chooses the best series, all of which receive attractive prizes. The winners will be announced on Sunday 24.July 2011. On that same day, the Berlin Fotomarathon will receive an Award as part of the competition “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas”. The Fotomarathon, selected among over 2600 candidates, is one of the 10 winners in the area of culture in Berlin. The Fotomarathon team feels honored to receive this distinction and hopes that the extra attention will also mean more support to its activities.

Organisers of the Fotomarathon: the nonprofit association Verein für Ereignisse, led by a group of enthusiastic volunteers. The Association is recognized as a charity.

About the Fotomarathon:
The Berlin Fotomarathon is organized by a non profit association: the Verein für Ereignisse. The Association is formed by a group of volunteers, who have undertaken a wide spectrum of tasks. Over the years, Verein für Ereignisse has gained in diversity and multi-cultural expression, with a truly international team.

In addition to the Fotomarathon, which is a major part of the program, we also want to undertake other artistic projects and cultural events in Berlin. The focus of our work is photography and the "joie de vivre" of enthusiastic Berlin photographers.
