130 PoliScanspeed systems for Latvia: Now VITRONIC is present

Wiesbaden / Riga. The German company VITRONIC GmbH and her subsidiary VITRONIC Baltica together with the Latvian company SIA Komerccentrs DATI Grupa won a tender for 130 speed enforcement systems in Latvia. By this the partners stand up to four competitors. 100 systems will be operating alternately in 160 stationary housings, 30 will be used for mobile speed enforcement.

With the installation of PoliScanspeed systems for speed enforcement in Latvia, VITRONIC will now be present in all Baltic states. At a press conference of the Latvian Ministry of the Interior VITRONIC presented the systems functionality and method of operation. Following the press conference the press had the opportunity to experience PoliScanspeed live.

“PoliScanspeed is the first laser-based speed enforcement system to be used in Latvia” said Dr. Eng. Norbert Stein, General Manager and Sole Shareholder of VITRONIC. “No in-road equipment is necessary. PoliScanspeed works highly reliable and efficiently. Our experiences show that the system generates up to three times more cases than conventional systems. This is a great plus factor for our customers“.

Edmunds Zivtiņš, Head of Prevention Department at Latvian State Police, also commented positively on the state-of-the-art enforcement system: “It is our goal to reduce the currently high numbers of road accidents caused by speeding. PoliScanspeed will be of great help reaching this goal”.

In numerous countries worldwide PoliScanspeed is successfully in use. Among these are Germany, USA, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Australia, Saudi-Arabia as well as Estonia and Lithuania. The system works with a LIDAR-based (Light Detection and Ranging) measurement principle. A scanning laser meas-ures the speeds and position of every vehicle in the tracking zone. In this way violations can be identified on multiple lanes, even when speeders tailgate or change lanes. Unlike radar, laser-based measurement operates within road work zones or in bends without any difficulty. Even motorcyclists can be tracked and identified. PoliScanspeed is available as a stationary as well as a mobile solution.
