McKool Smith’s patent litigation practice has been recognized in Intellectual Asset Management's (IAM) 2011 Patent Litigation 250, a comprehensive listing of the “World's Leading Patent Litigators.” The firm received national honors for both its patent litigation and patent litigation plaintiffs’ work, in addition to being ranked as a Tier 1 patent litigation firm in Texas.

According to the directory, McKool Smith has “become huge in the market and does an exceptional job representing its clients,” having achieved “outstanding verdicts” as a result of its “superb and well-documented trial expertise.”

The 2011 IAM Patent Litigation 250 also recognizes three McKool Smith attorneys as leaders in their field, including Co-Founder and Chairman Mike McKool and firm Principals Sam Baxter and Doug Cawley. Mr. McKool and Mr. Baxter are ranked as national leaders in both patent litigation and patent plaintiffs’ litigation. They are also ranked as leading patent litigators in Texas, along with Mr. Cawley. Mr. McKool received praise for his “extensive experience representing technology industry leaders in patent litigation,” Mr. Baxter is described as “a senior practitioner who really knows how to relate to a Texas jury,” and Mr. Cawley is hailed as a “preeminent trial lawyer.”

IAM compiles its rankings information by conducting in-depth interviews with patent attorneys, in-house counsel and other lawyers to gather market intelligence on the leading players in the field. Individuals qualify for a listing in the IAM Patent Litigation 250 when they receive sufficient positive feedback from peers and clients with knowledge of their practice and the market within which they operate. Only those individuals identified by market sources for their exceptional skill sets and profound insights into patent litigation are featured in the IAM Patent Litigation 250.
