Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz – an international boarding school with good reputation and one hundred years old tradition

Established in 1904, the lyceum Alpinum Zuoz is an international boarding school in Engadin. This exceptional IB school prepares more than 200 internal and 100 external schoolboys and schoolgirls from all over the world either for the Swiss Matura, the international Baccaulaureate Diploma or the German Abitur. In spite of its German-Swiss orientation, the international school Switzerland is cultivating a universal philosophy of life.

There are pupils from more than 30 nations who normally speak three or four languages fluently. In this renowned boarding school, they learn not only essential lessons for their further path of life but also personal qualities like helpfulness and respect for others. The boarding school Switzerland is bound to one hundred years of tradition as well as a modern and progressive way of thinking. The teachers strive to impart their students a sense of decency and order, motivation, the spirit of cosmopolitanism, fair-play and tolerance as well as the willingness for lifelong learning.

Born in 1957, Beat Sommer was appointed headmaster of the lyceum Alpinum Zuoz in 2005. Together with his wife Ursula Sommer he undertook the task of building up the lyceum’s boarding school for girls in 1991. Furthermore he is supported by the qualified team of deputy headmaster Balz Müller and other colleagues in realising the ambitious objectives of the IB school:

Leaving Zuoz with successful secondary school qualifications, the graduates of the international school Switzerland will even study at the best universities of the world. Their teachers had brought them up to use their talents and skills for the benefit of society. The lyceum’s former alumni have a sense of responsibility for the world as a whole and for the task of leading a meaningful life in friendship and confidence within their individual setting.

Far from breeding “brainiacs“, the IB school’s vision is to develop mind, body and heart of the young people. The objective is to educate well-balanced and reliable characters knowing the future of society and world will be in good hands. Besides specific disciplines, there is also room for sport, arts, music and theatre to encourage all aspects of personality in equal measure. Several academic proposals like „Careers and University Counselling“, „Learning Support Center“, „European Computer Driving Licence“ as well as language courses for Spanish and Mandarin will round up the extraordinary repertoire of the boarding school Switzerland. Annual quality controls and result assessments make sure that the IB school’s philosophy will be shared and implemented both by pupils and teachers.
