Wind of Change for Intralogistics - Bizerba at the CeMAT 2011

Balingen, 2nd May 2011 – Driven by globalisation companies are confronted with dynamic challenges. The goal is to constantly improve the logistical flows of material and goods that take place on the company grounds and to reduce the time required for the processing of orders. At the CeMAT 2011, one of the most important intralogistics fairs in the world, Bizerba is going to present from 2nd to 6th May system solutions that enable companies to efficiently optimise processes from goods receipt to dispatch (hall 12, stand C16).

Transparent goods receipt

Already at the goods receipt employees can weigh delivered materials with table-top and floor scales and mark them with the GLP label printer, alternatively with RFID transponders. The new PC terminal iS70 communicates to the subordinate IT of the company. Here modules of the software family .BRAIN ensure transparency by providing a decentralised overview of the stock and the new deliveries. The company can perfectly store and track the goods on their way through production and up to dispatch.

Software-supported commissioning – Clarity for upcoming inventories

Furthermore Bizerba presents a software-supported commissioning table. The integrated WinCIS Counting software enables a quick and accurate counting of mainly small parts in large quantities. The reference weight of the corresponding product is registered within the programme. That means that if an undefined amount of screws is placed manually on the scales, the measured weight will provide information on the exact number of items.

Further modules extend the range of functions of the software, among others by statistical assessments and reports. “The company can keep track of which amount of products has been dispatched to a customer in a specific period of time. All data are constantly available and provide a high transparency; a great advantage especially for upcoming inventories”, explains Dieter Conzelmann, Director of Industry Solutions at Bizerba.

Successfully implemented in European parcel and express delivery services: the DWS system for the automatic determination of weight and volume

In the logistics sector it is of growing importance to calculate shipping costs not only according to weight but also according to volume weight. As for the calculation of the transport costs, the optimum utilisation of space in transport vehicles or the subsequent fast determination of the suitable storage location for temporary storage. Bizerba combines the corresponding processes - dimensioning, weighing and scanning (DWS) - in an innovative system that has already been successfully implemented in European parcel and express delivery services.

At the beginning a barcode scanner identifies the product on the conveyor line. The Bizerba CWL-B4.1 scales subsequently weigh it within the dynamic operation. A volume measuring device then determines the height, width and length of the packaging. Using these values the volume can be calculated. According to Conzelmann, “all determined data will be submitted to the subordinate host system. Here the data is stored in a database and at the same time returned to the GLM-L box labeller. This device then applies the label with the volume and weight data”. As an option the labelling device involves an RFID unit integrated into the printer. On the transponder of the Smart Labels exact data on the product or the delivery can be stored. This enables an ideal traceability. Suitable Smart Labels are available at the Bizerba label factory in Bochum.

High degree of own intelligence - new box labeller for production, warehouse and distribution logistics

Box labellers of the GLM-B generation are used in production, warehouse and distribution logistics. The new models 350/700 are equipped with applicators with a stroke distance of 350 or resp. 700 millimetres and can label up to 45 packages of different sizes from the top or the side per minute. Different mounting stands enable various labelling positions. As the label reels have a relatively strong diameter of 300 millimetres less reel changes are required during operation.

The device is controlled either by internal or by external operating terminals. “Corresponding to Bizerba’s system concept the box labeller is mainly used as total printer in fully automatic check-weighing and price labelling lines, e.g. by being installed downstream of the GLM-I labeller or the CWE checkweigher”, says Conzelmann. It also has a high degree of own intelligence so that it can save article, text and layout data and can also assume inspection and activation tasks in combination with external scanners.
