2011 Outdoor Living Trends
In a time of recession, homeowners are finding creative ways to stay busy and entertain their families and friends around the house. In a time of tight budgeting, often lawn and landscape needs go untouched. However, an increased desire to entertain yet save money has led to 2011’s most popular outdoor living trends.“Families are staying home more. They’re trying to entertain themselves out of their homes,” said Tim Brown, owner of Olympic Lawn & Landscape in Kansas City, MO.
Brown says that due to the recession, families are finding ways to entertain guests in their outdoor living areas. Fire pits and fire rings have increased in popularity over the past several years, and they will continue to be a favorite entertainer among homeowners.
“Families enjoy roasting hot dogs and marshmallows at night while sitting around a fire ring,” said Brown. “It’s fun, easy and doesn’t cost a lot of money.”
Outdoor patio barbeque grills and outdoor dining areas are also a growing trend for families looking for ways to save money, yet have a good time, at home.

Another trend Olympic Lawn & Landscape sees in 2011 is the increased interest in patio kits that homeowners assemble themselves.
