“Green” climbing park technology by Active Constructions (ACS) becomes prevalent

New rope course anchor system met with general approval by leisure park operators and nature conservation experts alike.

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS - For many years, Active Constructions, one of the leading outdoor climbing park manufacturers in Europe, has been at the forefront of eco-friendly and eco-compatible designs of outdoor climbing facilities, continuously focussing on the development of new technologies which minimise the ecological impact of leisure activities on the environment while complying with the highest operational safety standards.

“Nature conservation and outdoor sport and leisure activities are frequently at odds with each other, mainly because most parks represent commercial enterprises that need to stay profitable,” says Kees-Jan Verwaal, Managing Director of ACS. “On that account, we are very happy that our ecologically friendly anchor system for forest High Ropes Climbing Courses now seems to be the new industry standard.”

The innovative anchoring device is based on a system of specially designed brackets which can be individually adjusted according to the ongoing growth pattern of the tree. The system has been extensively tested and obtained not only the official approval of the European safety regulators:

“When it comes to the operational safety of commercial outdoor adventure parks the standards set by the European industry watchdogs are extremely high,” confirms Frits Gelissen, one of the Netherlands’ leading tree expert and director of the OBTA Forestry Consultancy in De Linde. “Which means, that trees forming the main supporting structures of a High Ropes course frequently get a rather rough treatment. However, the device by ACS put paid to it. And the fact, that this system has now become prevalent is indeed very good news for the environment.”

“So far, we’ve used the technology in three of our recent ACS projects, the AvaTarZ Nature Climbing Park, currently the largest outdoor climbing park in the Netherlands, amongst them,” says Verwaal. “We also supply our eco-friendly anchor system to climbing park manufacturers in other European countries.”
“Apart from its eco-compatibility, ACS’s green technology offers a high ROI: it can be installed much quicker and requires only 50% of the maintenance compared with the conventional multi-layer steel cable winding configuration,” adds Verwaal.

“Furthermore, and aesthetically speaking, we deliberately went with a very unobtrusive design, to make sure that the system blends perfectly into the surrounding tree habitat. Which is a major contributing factor to providing customers with a genuinely ‘natural’ outdoor climbing experience.”
