Englishers NPO Press Release - New Organization Offers Free-of Charge Foreign Language Practice to Bulgarians

The “Englishers” - a new non-profit organization will open doors to offer Bulgarians the opportunity to practice their foreign language skills for free. Englishers will hold its first Open House in Stara Zagora at 19:30 on Tuesday, April 19th. The event will be held at Il Mondo in Stara Zagora.

The ability to speak a second language is undoubtedly one of the most important skills a Bulgarian can possess. With Bulgaria’s entrance into the European Union, more foreign companies are coming here to invest bringing with them demand for a workforce that can readily speak multiple languages. Bulgaria has many language centers for people to learn a foreign language. However, for Bulgarians who already have learned a language, investing money to practice and maintain their skill level for an eventual future career opportunity seems illogical.
To meet this need, Englishers’ meetings will aim to bring together people with similar language skills giving them the opportunity to practice the languages they have learned. Englishers’ monthly meetings in a closed environment will provide Bulgarians the opportunity to practice the language they have already learned and help them maintain their skill level and be ready when the right job opportunity appears. The Open House event will serve to introduce the mission of the organization and also allow people to participate in small practice groups in English, German, French and Russian.

Englishers’ Event Organizer, Steve Karrer explains: “It is a shame to see people’s language skills decline simply because people have nowhere to practice. Qualified job candidates are often overlooked due to an extended length of time in which they have not used the language. It is easy to see the benefits: a stress free environment where people can come together and have the chance to talk in a foreign language about everything from - a recent trip they have taken to the effects of climate change on developing countries. It is exciting to see the satisfaction people have when they practice a language they have not used in years. The meetings are organized so that people can first introduce themselves to one another and “warm up”. We then separate into smaller group and discuss different topics”
Mr. Karrer also pledged that with the success Englishers has had in Stara Zagora, Englishers plan to roll out meetings across the country within the coming months while also adding more languages.
How to become an “Englisher”? Participation is free. Through private donations, volunteers and partnerships with local businesses, the organization sustains its operating costs. Participants only have to pay for the drinks they order during the meeting.
