TMI Corps earns JROTC honor

Press release from: TMI - The Episocopal School of Texas

The Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas has received the highest honor accorded to Army JROTC units.

At an annual formal inspection conducted April 6 by members of the U.S. Army Command, 5th Brigade Inspection Team, the Corps scored 98 percent to retain its Honor Unit with Distinction status for the 18th consecutive year. This designation allows the unit’s commandant to nominate deserving cadets to attend any of the federal service academies.

“We have a great group of cadets,” said Cadet Lt. Col. James Atkins, battalion commander of the TMI Corps. “Everyone worked hard to prepare for this inspection.”

The purpose of the formal inspection, conducted every three years, is to assess the Army JROTC program’s performance, to ensure compliance with regulations and to provide feedback to the commandant’s staff.

“As the commandant at TMI, I set very high performance standards of the cadet leaders in the Corps and am never disappointed in the results,” said retired Army Maj. Douglas McVey. “The performance and motivation of the Corps members continually impresses and inspires me. This year’s impressive score demonstrates their commitment to high standards.”

TMI’s optional military program is open to all students in grades six through 12. Alumni currently attend all five of the federal service academies.
