HITBSecConf2011 - Amsterdam

Utrecht, The Netherlands, 13 April 2011 – On the 17th till the 20th of May the Grand Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam will be home to the second annual Hack In The Box deep knowledge security conference, HITB2011AMS. Bringing together a unique mix of security professionals, researchers, law enforcement and members of the hacker underground, this years event will not only cover the next generation of attack and defence methods but attendees will also be treated to a special exclusive presentation on the newly launched whistleblower website, OpenLeaks and a closing keynote by tech thinker, Richard Thieme.

Today, the name Wikileaks has become synonymous with transparency and information disclosure and Daniel Domschiet-Berg, a German technology advocate and transparency activist was one of the key figures in its operation. Previously known under the pseudonym Daniel Schmitt, he was the official spokesperson for WikiLeaks, where he worked alongside its founder, Julian Assange. He knows the ins and outs of the WikiLeaks organization like no other and recorded his experience with this organization in his book “Inside WikiLeaks”, which he published in February. In January 2011 Daniel split from WikiLeaks and co-founded OpenLeaks, a new website for anonymous online leaks that aims at providing greater transparency and to function as a service hatch for leaks.

On the last and final day of the conference, Richard Thieme, will wrap things up in a keynote titled “Ethical Considerations of Intelligence and Information Security” - an illumination of how the transformational engines of information technologies alter our psychological and spiritual frameworks and points of reference as we try to apply them to the new humanity. Not only what we see in information security is changing but the lenses through which we see are transforming too, because the eyes that see through them are also metamorphosing…

Thieme has published hundreds of articles and speaks professionally about the challenges posed by new technologies and the future, how to redesign ourselves to meet these challenges, and creativity in response to radical change. His pre-blog column, “Islands in the Clickstream,” was distributed to thousands of subscribers in sixty countries before being put together as a book by Syngress. At DefCon VIII, he moderated a panel that included the Assistant Secretary of Defense, who came to “dialogue” with 5000 computer hackers. He was invited to moderate because, according to a National Security Agency veteran, “You’re the only one in the room with the acceptance and respect of both the hacking community and the Feds.”

HITBSecConf is run as a community-backed not-for-profit effort endorsed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Malaysian National Computer Confederation (MNCC), Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), MSC Malaysia and the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI).
