YHS Automotive Service Center Shares Tips for Getting Automobiles Ready for Summer Heat

Houston-based repair shop specializing in Honda, Acura, Toyota and Lexus vehicles stresses how helpful regular maintenance can be for saving money in the long run.

Houston, TX – April 17, 2019 – YHS Automotive Service Center, a Houston-based auto shop specializing in Honda, Acura, Toyota and Lexus vehicles and boasting three master technicians with more than 45 years of combined experience between them, recently shared important tips for getting automobiles ready for the brutal Texas summer heat. In stressing how helpful regular maintenance can be for saving money in the long run, YHSrepresentatives noted checking air pressure and removing winter tires, checking the A/C system, inspecting wiper fluid and wiper blades and more.

“Warm temperatures can be hard on a vehicle – especially in our home state of Texas – as heat expands the air in the tires and makes cooling systems work harder,” explains Paul Garrett, YHS owner and operator. “However, we are constantly stressing to our clients that, with the right precautions, the toll that heat and sun take on their vehicles can be minimized, and with that offer them five primary tips for ‘summerizing’ their cars or trucks.”

Garrett explains the importance of getting your tires checked before the summer heat kicks in. Getting your tires checked for proper air, tread and quality is essential in maintaining the life of your tires. Regardless of what drivers do with their wheels, says Garrett, it is important to check their air pressure because it is critical to have properly-inflated rubber.

“Proper inflation ensures the best possible contact between the tires and the road; what’s more, an improperly inflated tire can overheat, potentially causing a blowout on the highway,” he adds.

Also important during the warmer months is a vehicle’s air conditioning system, which YHS representatives say should be run for a bit to determine if cold air is still being emitted. Drivers should pay attention to any strange noises or odors, and if the system needs cleaning or requires a recharge, the vehicle should be brought in to a professional shop like YHS Service Center immediately.

In moving on to the windshield area of the vehicle, the wiper fluid level and wiper blades should be inspected, given that visibility is extremely important when driving. “We have seen a plethora of cars and trucks come through our shop that have had their wiper fluid used up, and in these cases our techs check the reservoir and top it off,” adds Garrett. “Some customers also opt for a solution that helps clear the glass of dead bugs that may have accumulated.”

It’s important to look at the wiper blades as well, says Garrett, being that the Texas heat can easily dry out the rubber; if summertime storms are common in a particular area, customers are advised to replace them immediately.

YHS auto shop technicians perform under-the-hood inspections for warm temperature travel, a procedure that includes checking the battery, oil, coolant and brake fluid, and as a last step, usually recommend a washing and waxing.

“Our customers value the service they receive, trust the mechanics we employ and drive away with the confidence that their vehicle was in the best of hands – and that they were, perhaps most importantly, treated fairly and with respect,” concludes Garrett.
