Nursing home sued for neglect of patient

An 83-year-old man went to Golden LivingCenter – Stanford last year and suffered falls, bedsores, weight loss, respiratory injuries from exposure to mold, and more.
Now, his family has filed a lawsuit against the home and its administrator at the time, Timothy Peek, for negligence. The suit alleges medical and corporate negligence, as well as violation of the Long Term Care Resident’s Rights.

Pat Lanigan was admitted as a resident of Golden LivingCenter – Stanford, 105 Harmon Heights, Stanford, on or about Feb. 24, 2010. He was remained a resident there until about June 4, 2010.
The defendants claimed to be able to meet all of the medical and physical therapy needs of Pat Lanigan and other residents like him. However, they failed to properly care for him. As a result, he suffered:
• Multiple pressure sores;
• Multiple falls;
• Significant weight loss;
• Malnutrition;
• Dehydration;
• Urinary tract infections;
• Poor hygiene;
• Respiratory injuries from exposure to mold, mildew and/or other toxins; and
• Severe pain.
He also suffered unnecessary loss of personal dignity, severe pain and suffering, degradation, disability, and emotional distress, all of which were caused by the wrongful conduct of defendants, according to the suit.
The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages, as well as attorney’s fees, a jury trial, and loss of spousal consortium for Pat Lanigan’s spouse, Jean Lanigan. The lawsuit was filed in Lincoln County Circuit Court on March 4, 2011.
