Shreveport Mitigation Bank: Wetland Mitigation Readily Available-LA

The Shreveport Mitigation Bank (SMB) is managed and operated by Ecosystem Renewal, LLC. Wetland mitigation credits are available for sale and more are scheduled for release in the near future.

Being cleared prior to wetland regulation more than seventy five years ago, the land has been plowed, leveled, levied off and ditched to allow for agricultural farming. Historically the majority of the SMB was bottomland hardwood wetland with some buffer regions. No historic resource functional quality of the land was apparent prior to February of this year (2011) until key land features were reconstructed and 123,000 trees were planted to allow some natural characteristics of the land to exist once more.

The 295 acre SMB is located in Bossier Parish, Louisiana bordering the Red Chute Bayou to the south. The service area of the SMB extends through much of the northwestern part of the state including Bossier, Webster, Bienville, Red River, Natchitoches, and Claiborne parishes. It is strategically located to provide wetland mitigation credits to various impacts in and around the Shreveport metropolitan area. Restoration of the SMB will offset impacts this area and the surrounding regions sustain typically from the petro-chemical, transportation, and developmental industries.
