Active Constructions introduces BASE-jumping as part of climbing park layouts

VELDOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS – Anyone who would like to experience terminal velocity first hand but considers parachuting or bungee jumping a bit too extreme now has the opportunity to try their hand (or more appropriately, body) at skydiving in an absolute safe environment.

From today onwards, Active Constructions (ACS), one of Europe’s leading designers and manufacturers of outdoor climbing parks, provides the POWERFAN®, a technology developed by the UK-based company Dropzone, as part of its outdoor adventure park layouts.

“Using the POWERFAN® to experience genuine free fall conditions doesn’t involve jumping out of an airplane or wrapping a rope around your ankles and throwing yourself from a bridge,” explains Kees Jan Verwaal, the managing director of ACS. “Instead, users wear a body harness, with a polyethylene rope attached to it. The POWERFAN® then enables a rapid but controlled descent.”

The POWERFAN® converts the potential energy released during the fall of a body into rotational energy that is used to power a fan, with the rpm of the fan depend on the actual body mass of the diver. This means that the POWERFAN® requires no external energy supply whatsoever while enabling about 20 meters worth of genuine skydiving before ensuring a soft and easy touchdown.

“The POWERFAN® is the latest trend in outdoor Leisure & Recreation,” says Verwaal. “The technology has been extensively tested, is safe, low maintenance, allows diving from heights of 30m above ground and is suitable for individuals of all ages with a body weight of up to 18 st.”
