NY Folk/Soul/Jazz-Inspired Singer/Songwriter Alyssa Slated To Perform at Pussycat Lounge
A magical fresh sound. The next hymns on the street.- Remedy Magazine( EMAILWIRE.COM, March 12, 2007 ) Hastings-on-Hudson, NY - The versatile Alyssa, the hot jazz/folk/soul-inspired singer/songwriter transplanted from NYC to Hastings-on-Hudson, is slated to perform at The Pussycat Lounge in NYC on Tuesday, March 27th. The renown club is frequently host to a plethora of musicians and will feature Alyssa's provocative set at 8PM. The address is 96 Greenwich Street on the 2nd floor and is just two blocks south of the World Trade Center/GroundZero. Doors open at 7:30PM. Admission is $5. 21 and up.
Using music as a catharsis, Alyssa has survived a difficult childhood - leaving home at 15, and Crohn's Disease. After treatment with conventional methods failed, Alyssa used holistic ways to rid herself of the disease. She wrote much of her music during her hospital visits and from this evolved the middle-eastern-tinged tunes you hear on her EP release 'Alyssa'. Throughout the EP, you will also find folk, R&B, blues and pop - something for all music aficionados and the novice alike.
The uniquely crafted sounds of her music were created by Armond-Sabal-Lecco (Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Seal) on bass; Nataraj (P.M. Dawn) on drums, percussion, flutes and keys; Rahis an Tabla, and Alyssa as vocalist. Combining Indian and African percussion, sitar, cello, steel guitar, funky keys, and more was a trick, but somehow it all worked out. Listen closely and you'll hear something new each time.
Alyssa also performs Friday nights at Bloom Restaurant, 19 Main Street in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY at 7:30PM.
