Minister Offers Solidarity to Christchurch Irish Firm
Irish Minister Frances Fitzgerald TD, Minister for Children, along with His Excellency Máirtín O'Fainín, Irish Ambassador for Australia took time on their recent visit to Christchurch, New Zealand to meet with a local office of Irish firm, The Perigord Group.Christ Church, NZ, Mach 25, 2011 -- Irish Minister Frances Fitzgerald TD, Minister for Children, along with His Excellency Máirtín O'Fainín, Irish Ambassador for Australia took time on their recent visit to Christchurch, New Zealand to meet with a local office of Irish firm, The Perigord Group.
The minister was presented with an outline of the firm’s products and took a keen interest in the group’s activities in the region. She also discussed the employees personal experience of the recent earthquake.

About the Minister’s Visit
Minister Fitzgerald, accompanied by His Excellency Máirtín O'Fainín, Irish Ambassador for Australia, paid a one day visit to Chrishchurch on 19th March to meet with members of the Irish Community. The Minister also met with the family of one of the Irish victims, John O’ Connor, following the funeral. The Minister conveyed condolences on behalf of the Government to the O’ Connor family, many of whom had travelled from Kerry for the service. While in Chrishchurch the Minister met with New Zealand Minister for Economic Development and Earthquake Recovery, Mr Gerry Brownlee, the first such meeting with the New Zealand Government.
The visit to Christchurch followed a five day visit to Australia where the Ministerial programme included economic, tourism and Irish community related events. The Minister also met with the Australian Minister for Schools, Early Childhood and Youth, Mr Peter Garrett and discussed child- related issues.

Department of Health Minister Chiu Wen-ta lodged a formal complaint with the World Health Organization May 16 over its reference to Taiwan as a province of mainland China in a leaked internal memo.
