San Diego is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and ART SAN DIEGO is like no other fair - presenting first class art and an interactive art experience in a bay-side setting that is sophisticated and contemporary. The fair size is intimate and our programming offers a great diversity of art viewing, talks, films, culinary events, and music and dance performances. In addition to the programming and fair experience, ART SAN DIEGO serves to provide an additional focus on the cultural life of San Diego. We work collaboratively with city-wide arts organizations and artists to create a dynamic visitor experience during the fair.
2011 Programming Includes:
MADE IN SAN DIEGO
New this year, ART SAN DIEGO will present an exciting mix of “San Diego” focused exhibitions within the art fair. 2011 exhibitions will include winners of the San Diego Art Prize: Jay S. Johnson and Ruben Ortiz-Torres along with an emerging artist of their choosing. Another focused exhibition will include a collaborative show called “Domestic Objects” featuring works by the San Diego State University Contemporary Furniture Design Program and curated by Wendy Maruyama and Jennifer Luce.
Select Spotlight Artists Program will feature exciting emerging artists to watch in solo-exhibitions. Included in this year’s Spotlight Artist Program are four emerging artists selected by Marcela Quiroz Luna, and four emerging contemporary furniture designers selected by Jennifer Luce.
Last year we featured Panorama: Mexico with a special focus on several leading galleries from Mexico. This year we turn our attention to Argentina and pay homage to the exciting array of artworks represented by several leading galleries. In addition, Marcela Quiroz Luna will talk with several gallery owners and directors about their vision on the challenges and benefits of the art scene in Argentina.
Concurrent city-wide programming organized by ART SAN DIEGO. These combined events create an opportunity to showcase the diversity of San Diego’s artistic community. Projects include a variety of events ranging from dance performances, multimedia installations, cooperative gallery openings, and live-musical events at locations around town.
