Professor Brané Semolic in Slovenia named International Editorial Advisor for the global project management eJournal PM World Today

Dallas, Texas – March 7, 2007 — PMForum, Inc. announced today that Brané Semolic, PhD, Professor of Project Management at the University of Maribor in Maribor, Slovenia has been named an international editorial advisor for the online eJournal PM World Today. In January 2007 the company announced the formation of an International Editorial Advisory Council for PM World Today, to include representatives from some of the world’s leading universities with graduate programs in project management.

According to managing editor David L. Pells, “Dr. Semolic has been very active in the project management academic and professional communities for many years and is widely recognized throughout Europe among professional leaders, educators and researchers. I have known him for over ten years and have seen him help the PM profession grow in Slovenia to a healthy and professional status. He has also been very active in IPMA. It is an honor for us to have him join our editorial advisory team.”

Brané Semolic is currently Head of the Project and Technology Institute in the Faculty of Logistics at the University of Maribor in Maribor, Slovenia. He is also Head of the European Masters in Project Management at the University, and visiting professor of project management at the University of Bilbao, Spain and Cranefield College, South Africa. He is also President of the Experts Council for the Project Management Association of Slovenia (ZPM), and Chairman of the IPMA (International Project Management Association) Research Management Board. He is a member of the European Union’s (EU) Enterprise Policy Group – Professional Chamber, a member of the EU ECOLEAD Program Industrial Advisory Board, and liaison for ZPM cooperation with the Project Management Institute (PMI) in the USA. Brané Semolic has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering (technology), and a BSc, M. Sc.and Ph. D.in Economics and Business Administration (project management and informatics) from the University of Maribor.

Professor Semolic has 30 years of working experience as an expert, researcher, consultant, executive and project manager in industry and for the Slovene government. He spent four year as Counselor to the Ministry of Science and Technology, Republic of Slovenia (1990 – 1994) and has been a member of the International Association of Project Management (IPMA) since 1982. He was previously a Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Electronics and Computer Sciences, Faculty of Civil Engineering, and Faculty of Logistics (University of Maribor); Dean of GEA College (Global Entrepreneurship Academy) in Ljubljana; Lecturer in the “European Project Manager” postgraduate education program (joint program with University of Bremen); Co-founder of the EU education program “European Master in Project Management”; IPMA Vice president (international events and R&D); President of the Slovenian Project management Association (ZPM); First IPMA foreign assessor in the PM Certification Program in Serbia and Montenegro; Project manager of the 14th IPMA world congress in 1998; and President of scientific committee of 1st joint ICEC & IPMA Global Congress on Project Management and Cost Engineering in 2006. He has published more than 300 works on project management and other topics.

Established in 1959, the University of Maribor currently has 13 Faculties and more than 20,000 students. The Faculty of Logistics has two educational programs – technical and business logistics. Project management is an integral part of the program curriculum. Research work performed by the Project and Technology Management Institute has strong links with Slovenian industry. The first international inter-faculty masters program, European Master in Project Management – EuroMPM, will start during the next academic year. The EuroMPM is being implemented by a consortia of European Universities (University of Zaragoza, University of Bilbao, University of Trondheim, ESC Lille/Paris, University of Dortmund, University of Friedberg and University of Maribor). The University of Maribor has a long tradition in the teaching of project management, which started in 1971
