As Mother’s Day falls on the 3rd April this year, there are even more flowering plants available for the big day from climbing passion flowers and clematis to dramatic bougainvilleas in rich pinks and purples. These gorgeous plants are usually associated with Mediterranean holidays but the hardier bougainvillea varieties like purple ‘glabra’ do very well in the UK on a sunny windowsill or patio and can grow into sizeable shrubs over several years. The dramatic bracts start to colour up at the end of March and flower in waves on and on throughout the summer months into September or even October.
