The biggest and most shocking trade made by Bobcats is their 28 year old forward Gerald Wallace, who has been traded to Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for role players such as backup centre Joel Pryzbilla, reserve forward Dante Cunningham, centre reserve Sean Mark and two future draft picks. Sean was waived by the Bobcats on Friday 25 making him the free agent. Gerald remained on the Bobcats squad for 7 years and he was also the last original member of the team, extremely popular among teammates and fans.Gerald trade to Portland raised many eyebrows and Bobcats ’general manager Rod Higgins tried to defend the trading in the Friday press conference saying that it’s rebuilding time for the franchise and they have to be on the championship road rather sitting on seventh or eighth position. Michael Jordon, the Bobcats owner and six-time NBA champion did not face the press conference and decided to remain silent on the Gerald trade. According to trading agreement with Portland, Bobcats will get another protected first-round from Portland in 2013 for the first round of the season.
Shocking move made by Charlotte Bobcats is of backup centre Nazr Mohammed, who on Friday was traded to Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for forward D. J. White and guard Morris Peterson. Nazr throughout his career remains to be the most effective player for Bobcats with significant average playing time.
Though Michael Jordon’s these two trading moves did not get much appreciation but the defending argument was that it’s the cost cutting move that made the two high profile players sent to other franchises.
The Charlotte Bobcats played against the Sacramento Kings at the Time Warner Cable Arena without their winning players Wallace and Nazr while Joel and Dante debut for Bobcats. Bobcats have won three out of last four games while Kings has set the worst record of losing 8 games out of last 10 they played.
