Glorious Rajpath March at India's Republic Day for 52nd time in a Row by BBVP Pilani Girls NCC Band

For the last 51 years, the one constant in the Republic Day Parade has been the NCC girls’ band from BBVP - Birla Balika Vidyapeeth the Pilani Band. They are part of what has now become a tradition.

Birla Balika Vidyapeeth - BBVP, Pilani Rajasthan established in July 1941 affiliated to CBSE working on modern progressive lines is an English medium Residential Public School for girls. Apart from providing the facilities of modern education, the school is well known for retaining the best traditions of India’s rich traditional heritage.

Besides the training of intellect, the school puts great emphasis on sound health of the students and imparts Physical Training, Yoga, Hockey, Horse-Riding, Lawn Tennis, Judo, Swimming etc to the enrolled students. The school children regularly participate in National Integration Camps as well as Trekking camps.

NCC is an important co-curricular activity at BBVP Pilani and the school has two troops under 1 RAJ CTR Jr. Wing with a total of 150 cadets and one troop under 1 RAJ CTR Sr. wing with 52 cadets. The Pilani NCC Band the showpiece brand image of the school has achieved national fame by participating in the Republic Day Parade on January 26th at Raj Path, Delhi for the past 51 years.

Sergeant Pooja Natarajan from BBVP Pilani who had participated in the Republic Day Camp - RDC for the Jan 26 2008 parade at Rajpath playing the trumpet said that she was excited to lead the famous band of her school along with Akansha Rathi and Aditi Priya for the Republic Day parade on Jan 26, 2011.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations on Jan 26th 2011 the 62nd Republic Day for India. On this day, when the BBVP Pilani NCC Band for the 52nd year in a row marched in Rajpath playing Iqbal’s immortal Saare Jahan Se Achha, it reiterated the Mahatma Gandhi quote “What really is needed to make democracy function is not knowledge of facts but right education” which indeed they were getting at Birla Balika Vidya Peeth.”

The BBVP Band team got a rousing welcome from the students and teachers of the school when they returned back to Pilani on January 30, 2011.
