CINDERELLA....... THE UNPLEASANT PLAYERS.........SIMPLY WONDERFUL

2011 Men's Captain, Les Dimmock as Ugly Sister Bretha

2011 Men's Captain, Les Dimmock as Ugly Sister Bretha

The golfers of Mount Pleasant Golf Club, in Lower Stondon, swapped the greens and fairways of the golf course for "the boards" on Saturday for
a charity production of Cinderella.

Members and their guests filled the recently opened Fairway Bar and Bistro and were treated to an evening of slapstick hilarity as the cast told the traditional tale, with all the well-known characters, but with the odd twist thrown in at the end.
Men's Captain Les Dimmock (Ugly sister) and Lady Captain Alison Stroomer (Fairy God mother) were delighted with both the performance of the
cast and the response of the packed audience describing the evening as " magnificent "and " simply wonderful."

All proceeds from the evening, over £1,000, were given over to the Captains charities which this year are Keech Cottage Hospice Care and St Johns Hospice, Moggerhanger .

LOCATION
Mount Pleasant Golf Club is situated in the centre of the village of Lower Stondon, less than 1 mile west on the Stondon/Henlow camp roundabout, off the A600 Shefford to Hitchin Road.

CLUBHOUSE
The Club recently opened a new Stunning Clubhouse, known locally as the Fairway Bar & Bistro. It has been positioned to give a fantastic view of the 18th hole. The construction is a one storey timber build and is sympathetic to the surrounding environment. Care was taken to make the building as environmentally friendly as possible, using air source heating, and energy efficient lighting. The new facilities include full catering facilities, changing rooms, T.V. area, function rooms available for hire for conference and training needs, as well as private parties & events.

COURSE
Mount Pleasant is a very attractive 9 hole Golf Course, with 18 different tees, covering about 70 acres. The course incorporated 3 meadows, with existing trees, hedges, ponds and ditches. The course measures nearly 6,200 yards with a par of 70. Some 10,000 extra trees, mainly indigenous species, were planted and all of these plantations are now very well established making some excellent tree lined holes. The course compliments the environment and uses the natural contours of the land. The course opened for play in July 1992 and has established a reputation for its excellent condition and presentation.

COURSE DESIGN
The course has been designed to provide an interesting challenge. It should provide a fair test of golf to established players, but not be too intimidating to enthusiastic beginners.
By using the well-proven construction principals recommended by the English Golf Union and incorporating a good drainage and irrigation system, the course is playable all year round.
Some revisions to the course have taken place over the years. A new 4th/13th green has been built, extending a short par 4 by some 70 yards. The old green was excavated to form a large pond. A new tee has been built for the 18th hole and new tees have also been constructed to add some length for the competitions.
The maintenance of the course is carried out in a sustainable way, by keeping inputs low and managing the course with the environment in mind all the time.
