Dr. Mark Ballentyne Attends Medical Aesthetic Conference
Portsmouth, NH – Dr. Mark Ballentyne attended an educational conference in Phoenix, Arizona from Friday, January 14th through Sunday, January 16th, 2011 on the full range of offerings today in Aesthetic Medicine. Attended by plastic surgeons and medical aesthetic doctors from across the country, the conference presented the latest in skin care, facial injection and laser treatments. Coursework also offered the opportunity to complete the first step toward board certification in Aesthetic Medicine, which Dr. Ballentyne accomplished. Board certification in Aesthetic Medicine offers the highest standard of training and skill for patients of The Skin Wellness Center at Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center. It is a standard that patients should look for wherever they receive treatment.Topics presented the first day included medical level skin conditioning, the classification of skin types, the latest in chemical peeling agents and selection for the individual patient's skin type and needs. Peeling agents including glycolic, salicylic, TCA and others. A chemical peel removes the dead outer layers of skin, stimulates collagen growth, producing tighter, smoother skin. The newest chemical peels are administered quicker, are more comfortable for the patient and accomplish more than peels did in the past. Also presented were the prevention and management of peeling complications, live demonstrations and a hands-on workshop.
The second day of topics focused on Botulinum Toxin Type A and Fillers. Botox Cosmetics and Dysport are very popular and broadly used right now. Dr. Ballentyne learned the newest uses for Botox including mini-browlifts, lifts for a down- turned mouth and neck lifts. Also discussed were the indications by which a patient can benefit from the use of Botox over a more invasive option, such a browlift or mini-facelift. Live demonstrations and workshops, again were held for training in administering the product toward optimal results for the patient.
Dr.Ballentyne also attended course work in facial injection fillers for facial wrinkles and their classification, skin fillers and different types, and knowing which patients would benefit from which fillers and a review of the strong base of knowledge necessary for patient safety and assurance of optimal results. Live demonstrations and hands-on workshops presented wonderful opportunity for integration of newly acquired facial injection skills.
Lastly, Dr. Ballentyne attended an intensive course on the latest technology and methods in "Lasers, Physical Peelings and Technologies in Aesthetic Medicine", which included presentations on laser skin resurfacing, photo rejuvenation, laser treatments for hair and tattoo removal, vascular lesions and the highly popular fraxel laser and physical peelings. Basic review on lasers and their physics, and laser types and safety were included.
