New triathlon award to recognize the best in social media

Triathlon Week (triathlonweek.com) today announced the launch of the Triathlon Twitter Awards. The awards are designed to give special recognition to triathletes, brands and products who are using social media to engage and inspire their audience.

"We wanted to create an award that reflected the social nature of the sport," said Robert Gourley of Triathlon Week. "By letting people nominate and vote through Twitter, we hope to bring more exposure to those using social media to help grow the sport.

The award covers several categories, including Best Triathlete and Best Triathlon Event. Users can nominate any Triathlon-related person or brand who is actively using social media. The nomination period runs until February 28th, 2011. This will be followed with a final voting period in March to pick the best-of-the-best in each category. During the final voting phase, users can vote on the top 3 finalists from each category.

Anyone can make a nomination through Twitter by sending a formatted tweet or via the voting page at http://www.triathlonweek.com/twitter-awards/.
