State-of-the-art chip technologies from the German-Dutch

Improving healthcare, shift to sustainable energy and make our world a safer place. The development of chips drives global innovation. At the same time, ‘digitalisation’ depends on innovative and efficient hardware just as much as on software. Photonics play an important role in crossing the borders of current microsystem- and chiptechnologies. Because of this, photonics is the next big thing in Micro- and Nano electronics and fits perfectly in the focus of ROCKET (RegiOnal Collaboration on Key Enabling Technologies), an INTERREG V A-project. ROCKET stimulates the collaboration between industry and science in the German-Dutch border region, in order to further enforce research, technological development and innovation. This project is funded by the EU and the INTERREG-partners in the context of the INTERREG-programs.

The Themenabend “Chip Integration Technologies” on the 19th of February 2019 was organised by the clusters NMWP.NRW, NMWP e.V. and Business Cluster Semiconductors Netherlands (BCSEMI NL) and took place on Novio Tech Campus. The evening was dedicated to the future of chip development and integration of photonics in chips (PICs, photonic integrated circuits). They also highlighted the importance of connecting experts and lobbyists in the German-Dutch border region. Furthermore various High Tech Semicon companies on Novio Tech Campus were visited, gaining insights in the infrastructure on campus and working methods of the various companies.

“Next to the large amount of research institutes and universities, it’s the broad scope of innovative entrepreneurs in the German-Dutch border region that defines our prosperous achievements. Collaboration, that crosses borders and technologies, is key to our success. Successful events like the Themenabend, jointly organised by the clusters NMWP.NRW and BCSEMI NL, are important for further elaboration of this cross-border collaboration”, says Michiel Scheffer, deputy of the Gelderland region, with regard to the large number of visitors at the event. The get together at the end of the event offered visitors the possibility to extend their network and get into in-depth discussions with the speakers.
